Formed in Minneapolis in the summer of 2009, Courtney McClean & The Dirty Curls is the brainchild of frontwoman Courtney McLean. Driven by a sudden inspiration to blend seemingly disparate worlds, McLean set out to create a unique comedy-erotica-bluegrass ensemble. The group's foundational mission is as straightforward as it is bold: to craft some of the dirtiest, funniest, and most unconventional hillbilly music ever recorded.
Sonically and performatively, the band delivers a side-splitting brew of traditional country, bluegrass, rock, and musical theater. Their highly specialized niche—affectionately dubbed "Naughtybilly"—relies on sharp wit, unapologetic humor, and musical talent. For those unfamiliar with their work, the band's energy and lyrical content are often described as a raucous intersection of Tenacious D, Kristen Wiig, and Loretta Lynn.
