Trauma is an American heavy metal band formed in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1980, best known as the band featuring legendary bassist Cliff Burton (1981-82) before he joined Metallica in 1982. Regarded as a pioneering act in the early New Wave of Bay Area Metal, the band was a staple of the local scene, performing at legendary venues like The Stone and The Whisky a Go Go.
Trauma continued after Burton’s departure, eventually releasing their debut album Scratch and Scream in 1984 on Shrapnel Records, which featured a new lineup including drummer Kris Gustofson.
