The group consisting of Jaco Pastorius (electric bass), Pat Metheny (electric guitar), Bruce Ditmas (drums), and Paul Bley (electric piano) is best described as a spontaneous and experimental jazz-fusion quartet. Recorded in June 1974 for Bley’s Improvising Artists label, their self-titled album (often titled "Jaco") is historically significant as one of the first professional recordings for both Pastorius and Metheny.
