Prashant Aswani's musical journey began with an early exposure to classical Indian music and playing the tabla at age eight, which laid a strong rhythmic foundation for his future career. His trajectory shifted dramatically at age 13 when he discovered AC/DC's "Back in Black," inspiring him to pick up the guitar. Largely self-taught by playing along to the radio in his early years, Aswani eventually attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music. It was during his time at Berklee that he met guitar virtuoso Greg Howe, who recognized his talent and produced Aswani's debut solo album, Revelation (1998), which he remarkably recorded while still a student.
Often referred to as the "guru of groove," Aswani is celebrated for a distinctive guitar voice that blends aggressive, hard-hitting rock with sophisticated jazz harmonies and intricate ethnic melodies. His technical chops and chameleon-like ability to seamlessly fit into almost any genre have led to high-profile collaborations with a wide array of artists, including Justin Timberlake, Christina Milian, Herbie Hancock, and Jose Pasillas of Incubus. Beyond his session work and touring, Aswani has released a string of acclaimed solo albums, such as Duality and Frequency, and his lasting impact on the instrument was recently honored by Charvel Guitars with the release of his signature Pro-Mod So-Cal PA28 model.
